Amusement Ride Accident Leaves One Dead and Seven Injured

It was the Ohio State Fair’s opening night on July 26th, when one of its main attractions crashed around 7:20 pm. During the start of a ride called “Fire Ball” there was a sudden and deadly malfunction which caused an entire group of people to be thrown off the ride. One passenger, who was only 18 years old, was thrown 50 feet, leading to his unfortunate death.

Seven others, including the 18-year old’s girlfriend, were injured on the ride during the incident – most of them severely. A bystander captured a video of the malfunctioning ride, and it went viral on the internet that same day. Many of the injured people included small children and their mothers.

Many people claim that it was the worst accident in the entire history of the fair. The governor spoke out that same night, saying it was a very, very sad night for everyone. From there, every single ride was shut down and ordered to be inspected.

The reasoning for the malfunction is still unknown, but it is likely that someone did not properly inspect the ride before starting it up that night. Two of the seven people that were injured have been hospitalized for the past several days.

This is a prime example of someone else’s negligence leading to a wrongful death.  At Baldwin Matzus, LLC, our team understands that there is nothing worse than losing a loved one or even watching one get seriously hurt, which is why we are prepared to do everything in our power to make sure you and your family get the maximum compensation for your injuries.
